When it comes to talking on the cell phone, ambient sound can be frustrating. The sensitive microphones built into most earpieces pick up other conversations, white noise, even the noise pollution of street construction. Currently, there are two products that claim to blast noise pollution: the Jawbone and the Blue Ant Z9i. But how do these two products stack up against one another?
Jawbone
Both the Jawbone and the Z9i claim to filter out noise pollution. To do this, the Jawbone claims to use military-grade noise shield technology, which monitors background noise with separate sensors and separates it from noise that it picks up from a sensor that rests near the consumer's jawbone (hence the name.)
Z9i
Like the jawbone, the Z9i uses two microphones to monitor ambient sound while picking up the consumer's voice. Unlike the Jawbone, the device does not have to have a sensor placed directly against the consumer's jawbone to work effectively. In addition, while the noise filtration quality is slightly less than that of the Jawbone, the size of the device is much smaller.
Ambient Noise Reduction
Both the Jawbone and the Z9i are effective at shutting out ambient noise. Consumers who have used the two have left positive reviews, and each device compares well to the other in product comparisons. However, neither device is effective against noise caused by the wind.
Packaging
Both earpieces come with interchangeable ear hooks and ear buds for a comfortable fit. The Jawbone comes with four hooks and three ear buds of varying sizes for the right and left ear, while the Blue Ant model comes with two ear buds and two hooks. Both earpieces come with a wall charger and USB cable for charging from your computer.
Design
The Blue Ant comes with a tie clip to give the user a place to clip the headset when not in use. By contrast, the Jawbone has no means of storage when not on the user's ear. Both utilize a proprietary means of charging via contact points.
