Use The Closeup Lens On A Tlr Camera

TLR stands for Twin Lens Reflex camera and refers to the fact that a user looks through one lens to focus and frame the subject but a second lens is used to capture the image on film. A TLR camera can do this by having two of the same lens and using a linked focus mechanism to ensure both the viewing and taking lens are focused on the same thing. When using lenses on a TLR they, must come in a set -- one for the viewing lens and one for the taking lens.

Instructions

1. Determine how close you want to get to your subject. Close up lenses are marked +1, +2, +3, +4, etc., with higher numbers meaning closer focal distances. Often close up lenses are sold as a set so this may be a better option.

2. Ensure your close up lens fits your brand of TLR. Different TLR cameras have different screw or bayonet mounted close up lens adapters.

3. Screw the close up lens adapters to the front of the lens. The larger lens is for the top or viewing lens and it is designed to correct the shift in view caused by the distance between the two lenses. The bottom lens is the taking lens that will focus the image on the film.

4. Use the viewing hood and focusing screen to focus on your subject. Check the focus carefully as subjects at a close distance will have a shallow depth of field and are harder to keep in focus.

5. Take a photo as you normally would by using the shutter button.
