The Zoom H2 is a digital audio recorder that can both capture audio on a memory card and play it back. The Handy Recorder can be plugged directly into a computer, so recorded audio can be transferred to the hard drive, where it can be stored or edited. The all-in-one recorder provides all necessary controls for recording and playback on a single instrument panel and features a small display screen that allows you to track the recording.
Instructions
1. Insert two AA batteries into the Zoom Handy Recorder H2's battery compartment or connect it to an electric power source. If you want to plug the recorder in, use the AC adapter provided with the device. Plug the AC adapter cord jack into the port on the recorder and the electrical plug into an electrical outlet.
2. If you choose to use one, plug an external microphone into the mini jack port on the recorder labeled "EXT MIC IN." If you do not choose to use an external microphone, ensure the sound you want to record is within 6 to 8 inches of the built-in microphone on the device in order to get sufficient pickup.
3. Pull forward the cover of the memory card slot on the bottom of the recorder to open it. Push a memory card into the slot until it clicks and stays in place. Close the cover and slide it back to lock it into position.
4. Power the device on by sliding the power switch to the up position. The power switch is located directly above the AC power adapter port.
5. Press the button with the red dot (the Record button), in the middle of the control panel, to start recording. When you have finished capturing audio, press the Record button again to stop recording.
6. Click the Play/Pause button to play back the most recently recorded audio clip. Use the double-arrow buttons on either side of the Record button to move backward and forward between clips.
7. Plug the Zoom H2 into a computer using the USB cord provided with the device. The USB cord fits only one port on the recorder and plugs into any USB port on the computer. When it's plugged in, the computer reads the Handy Recorder as an external storage device and opens an "AutoPlay" box. To transfer files from the recorder, click the "Open folder to view files" link and drag the clips from the Handy Recorder folder into any folder on the hard drive.
