Exposed Slide Film Can Be Used To Make A Infrared Filter
Infrared photos display a word that is not normally seen by capturing images using infrared (IR) light. You can convert a compact digital camera lens so that it is able to capture infrared images by covering the lens with an IR filter. You can make the IR filter for very little money and in a couple of minutes using exposed slide film. You will not have to disassemble the camera lens or void the warranty of the compact digital camera in any way.
Instructions
1. Purchase a roll of 120-sized slide film. Give the roll to a film lab for development without having used the slide film.
2. Put the white paper down on a table. Put on the cotton gloves. Cut out two frames of the exposed 12-sized slide film with the scissors. Place one of the cut pieces of the 120-sized slide film down on the white paper
3. Put the cardboard down on the white paper. Put the other cut frame of the 120-sized slide film on the cardboard. Cut around the 120-sized slide film with the utility knife. Pick up the cut out piece of cardboard and put it down on the white paper. Discard the rest of the cardboard.
4. Cut out a square from the inside of the cardboard using the utility knife, leaving about a 1/4 inch between where you are cutting and the outer rim of the cardboard. Use your fingers to punch out the inner square of cardboard and discard it.
5. Place one of the two frames of the 120-sized film on top of the cardboard frame you have just made. Tape the sides of the 120-sized film to the edges of the cardboard using the cellophane tape. Put the other frame of the 120-sized film over the first frame. Tape the sides of the 120-sized film to the edges of the cardboard using the cellophane tape.
6. Place the cardboard against the lens of the digital camera with the slide film touching the lens. Tape the sides of the cardboard to the sides of the digital camera using cellophane tape. Aim the digital camera at a person or at a scene and take an infrared photo now that the camera lens can see infrared light.
