Using an MP3 player such as the Zune in your car is simple and affordable. This will work with not only the Zune, but any MP3 player or multimedia device that uses a 3.5-millimeter jack for audio output. There are multiple ways of connecting a Zune to your car. Newer cars usually come equipped to handle MP3 players through the auxiliary-in input or USB. If you're driving an older car, chances are, you'll have to decide whether it's worth it to upgrade your audio deck (which is actually quite cheap) for better sound quality or to settle for a more accessible method.
Instructions
Auxiliary In
1. Confirm which options are available in your car. Most modern cars are equipped with "auxiliary-in" ports in the audio deck. Using auxiliary in will give you the best possible sound quality. These look like small holes similar to what you'd plug a pair of earbuds or headphones into. They often say "Aux In" on the side.
2. Connect one end of a standard 3.5-millimeter auxiliary cable to your Zune and insert the other end into the "Aux In" port.
3. Set the audio mode on your audio deck to "Aux In Mode." Any audio from your Zune will play through your car speakers.
Cassette Adapter
4. Use a cassette adapter. These are cheap and produce passable sound quality.
5. Insert the cassette adapter into your cassette deck as you would any other cassette.
6. Connect the end of the 3.5-millimeter cable into your Zune. Any audio from your Zune will play through your car speakers.
Wireless Adapter
7. Use a wireless adapter. This is a simple solution for those who don't have auxiliary in or a cassette adapter. Wireless adapters are cheap and will work in any car with a radio, but they produce the worst sound quality and are susceptible to static and any other radio interference.
8. Insert batteries into the wireless adapter or connect it your vehicle's DC plug.
9. Connect the 3.5-millimeter jack from the wireless adapter to the Zune. Refer to your wireless adapter to see which station the signal is broadcasting to and change the channel of your car radio to that station to hear any audio being played on your Zune.
