Most regular cameras use 35mm film.
The main difference between a digital camera and a regular camera is the medium used to capture the image. Regular cameras use film, usually 35mm. Digital cameras save the image on an image sensor built into the camera.
Film History
In 1888, the first Kodak camera became available. The camera was easy to operate, and came with a roll of film with 100 exposures. The camera cost $25. The first mass-produced camera, the Brownie, came out in 1900. It sold for $1.
Film Benefits
Some people prefer the way a photo taken on film looks. Modern film cameras can take pictures faster than inexpensive digital cameras. Film also has much higher detail and resolution.
Disadvantages of Film
Film is expensive to purchase and to process. Additionally, amateur photographers who do not develop their own film have no way of previewing their pictures before they are printed.
Benefits of Digital Cameras
Digital cameras allow the photographer to manipulate the photos using a computer program. The photos can also be viewed immediately and deleted if they are not good.
Disadvantages of Digital Cameras
Digital camera technology is constantly evolving, meaning that digital equipment becomes obsolete much faster than film equipment. Less expensive digital cameras are slower to take photographs than film cameras, since they must save each picture to the disk. Even the best digital cameras cannot match the resolution of the best film.
