An S-Video connection can be used to connect the video between devices such as a television and a computer. An S-Video is a superior quality connection compared to a coax cable or a standard audio/video or RCA connection. An S-Video connection can work between a computer and a television but each will need to have an S-Video connection.
Instructions
1. Purchase a video or graphics card that has an S-Video output. A computer needs to have an S-Video output that is provided by a video or graphics card to utilize an S-Video connection. A video or graphics card can be found online at sites like Newegg (see Resources) or at a retailer such as Best Buy.
2. Install the graphics card into the computer. Open the case by loosening the screws on the back and remove the side panel. Insert the card into an open PCI or AGP slot in the motherboard. Use a screwdriver to secure the card plate to the case.
3. Connect the computer to the television. Plug one end of an S-Video cable into the connector on the graphics card and the other end into the television.
4. Change the input that is being used by the television. Use the mode or input option on the television remote to change it to the S-Video.
5. Change the settings on the software for the graphics card to use the television as an attached monitor. There should be a Display Manager or setting on the software to add an attached display, such as a television. Refer to the manual for the graphics card for specific instructions.
