Long distance
phone calls, particularly international long distance calls, can be expensive when dialing from your mobile or land line telephone. Luckily, modern technology has created a wide selection of cheap, and even free, options for connecting long distance.
Instructions
1. Contact your telephone service provider, whether a cellular or land line service, and ask them about special rates and packages for long distance callers. For the best service, make sure you have a list of the countries, cities and calling codes where you would like to phone before you call.
2. Use a discount calling card. Calling cards are available for national and international phone calls in virtually every country on Earth. Safe and handy, most cards can be recharged with a major credit card and often offer cheaper services than direct dialing from your cellular or mobile phone.
3. Make cheap telephone calls with instant dial services, available from a number of companies, including Just-dial. Most instant dial services are based outside of the United States; however, many offer services for cellular and land line telephones worldwide. Finding the right service for your needs may take a bit of research, but in the end you are sure to save a bundle.
4. Dial with your computer using one of many Internet phone service providers which offer the least expensive telephone calls by far. In fact, if you share a service with the person you are calling, your call is usually free. The service you choose will depend on your computer and your needs; some of the most popular services include iChat, Skype and Yahoo!Voice. Many services are free to join and also offer complementary downloads, however, others may require a monthly fee or purchase of software.
