Digital cameras need a good source of battery power to work properly.
Nikon produces a wide range of photographic equipment including digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, external flash units, lenses and point and shoot digital cameras they market under the name Coolpix. Within the Coolpix line of cameras are entry level point and shoot models that are compact, easy to use and come in a number of colors. More advanced models include many of the same features found in DSLRs without the option of being able to change the lens. If your camera stops working, you can try a few steps at home to repair the camera.
Instructions
1. Remove and recharge the battery. Digital cameras need battery power. If the battery in the camera is low, dead or not supplying a consistent source of power, the camera may not operate properly.
2. Clean the battery compartment electrical contacts and the electrical contacts on the battery itself with a clean eraser on the end of a pencil. If the contacts are dirty or have any corrosion on them, they may prevent the battery from making good contact, resulting in the camera not getting the power it needs.
3. Remove and replace the memory card. Check to see if the memory card is full, or if it is corrupt. When a card is full, the digital camera will stop taking pictures. If the card is corrupted, the camera may shut down completely.
4. Inspect the last pictures you took with the camera that you have downloaded to your computer. Check the exposure, focus point and the color profile of the pictures. Looking at past pictures may give you some hints to the nature of the malfunction.
