If you are starting a new business and intend to sell products, you will need a way to track your inventory and complete a sale. One way to accomplish this is with a Universal Product Code, or UPC code.
UPC and Bar Code
The UPC code is a 12-digit code that is used to identify both the product and the merchant that is selling the product. The bar code represents the sequence of lines that appear above the UPC code. It allows a scanner to quickly read the 12-digit UPC code.
Purchase Bar Codes
Bar codes are available for purchase like any other product. They can be bought in bulk and in singles. Websites such as "Buy A Barcode" and "Bar Codes Talk" allow you to purchase large quantities of barcodes to use with your products.
Price
Price will vary depending on the vendor you choose. As a general rule, the more you buy the less you will spend per piece. If you are buying nine bar codes, you might spend about $1.50 per code. If you are buying 99, you can expect to spend $0.80 per code.
