Change The File Numbers With A Nikon D700

A member of Nikon's "D" family of digital single-lens reflex professional-grade cameras, the D700 possesses several features which allow you to customize your user experience. Among these is the ability to control which number the camera ascribes to your photo files -- "DSC_0001.JPG," for example -- as you shoot. This allows you to organize your photos as you see fit. Changing this setting within your Nikon D700 is simple, straightforward and requires only a few moments of your time.

Instructions

1. Turn on your D700 and access the "Setup" menu. Flip the switch on top of the camera to the "On" position and hit the "Menu" button to the left of your LCD screen. Use the arrows surrounding the "OK" button on the right side of the screen to scroll down to "Setup," represented by a "Wrench" icon. Hit the "OK" button.

2. Enter the "File Number Sequence" control. Scroll down through the "Setup" menu until you reach the "File Number Sequence" option. Hit the "OK" button.

3. Set the "File Number Sequence" control according to your preference. If you set the control to "Off," your camera will continue to number files indefinitely, all the way up to "DSC_9999.JPG." If you select "On," the camera will reset to "DSC_0001.JPG" every time you turn it on. Scroll down to "Reset" and hit the "OK" button to reset your numbering to "DSC_0001.JPG" one time only.
