Night vision scopes use trace amounts of ambient light, from the moon or stars, and amplify it within the optical chambers to provide a view of the nocturnal world. "Making" night vision scopes yourself is not typically something accomplished as a do-it-yourself project due to the optical calibrations and high-tech equipment needed. There is a way, however, to fashion a night vision scope using existing rifle scopes and specialized night vision adapters, often available within most budgets. By using this method, you are able to use the night vision adapter for all of your rifle scopes, giving you a range of possibilities.
Instructions
1. Remove all caps from the rifle scope being used to make a night vision scope. If the scope is on a rifle, open the chamber and ensure the weapon is unloaded.
2. Slide the night vision adapter over the end (where you look through) of the scope. Most adapters are universal and fit over the scopes. Adjust to secure. Turn the adapter clockwise to tighten onto the scope.
3. Take the rifle and scope to a firing range at night. Never use the night vision adapter in daylight or indoor bright light. Doing so may lead to eye injury or blindness.
4. Turn the night vision adapter on in the dark and let your eyes adjust to the darkness. Site in your scope using the "windage" and elevator dials, taking shots looking through the night vision adapter.
5. Switch the adapter over to other scopes, as needed.
