Converting VHS movies to DVD allows you to refurbish, preserve and maintain older footage. This process may not be the easiest to accomplish, but it is well worth the effort, especially once you master a specific user-friendly technique.
Instructions
1. Turn on both the computer and converter box.
2. Connect your video cable from the video output jack of the VCR to the analog-to-DV converter box. A video camera should appear in the playback area to assist you with editing and capturing the VHS video. You will now be prompted to connect the audio source in the same manner. The converter box will have an indication or switch that will tell you in which direction you should convert the video. It will say "Analog to DV" or "DV to Analog." Convert the video accordingly.
3. Plug the USB cable into the computer and converter box. Open your conversion software to begin the initial conversion. Go to the menu bar at the top of the converting program. Click "Options" or "Settings" to edit your capture settings. When you have located this section, right-click the "Capture Settings" tab to configure your setup. Select "Non-Controllable Device" from the "Device Control" menu in the "Capture Settings" subfolder.
4. Prompt the video to begin the conversion process in the spot you desire. When the "Conversion Successful" notification appears, click "OK" to convert the file format. Go to the top menu and click "Settings" to convert the file. It is recommended that you convert the file to .mpeg-2; this ensures the quality of your conversion. Click "File" at the top of the menu and go to "Save" once the conversion is complete. Save the file in a location where it will be easy for you to access. Close the program once you have saved the file.
5. Insert a blank DVD-R to begin burning the video file. Your computer's "Auto Play" window should appear and list options of what you would like to do with the disc. The option "Burn files to the disc" should be first. Click the link; the default burning program for your computer should appear. Locate the file you want to burn. Place the file in the disc playlist to ensure it is in queue. Click "Burn" to begin applying the files to the disc. The disc should automatically eject when the application is complete.
