A Canon PowerShot S80 is a digital camera that is powered by a rechargeable battery pack. If the battery pack won't charge, either the battery pack or the charger is not working correctly and should be replaced. Troubleshooting can help you determine the cause of the problem and which part to replace.
Instructions
1. Slide the memory card/battery cover outward and then lift up the cover. Slide the battery latch downward. Lift up the battery pack and remove it from the camera.
2. Insert the battery pack into the charging device. The battery contacts should be inward, facing the battery charger. Connect the battery charger to a power supply. If you have a CB-2LW, the charger should be plugged into an electrical outlet. If you have a CB-2LWE charger, insert the power-supply cord to the top of the charger and then plug the other end into an electrical outlet or computer's USB port, depending on the cord. If you are using a USB port with the charger, turn your computer on.
3. Locate the charge-indicator light. While charging, the light will be orange. If the light is not lit, the charger is not receiving power. Ensure the device is receiving power and is connected to a working power supply. Attempt a different battery port or electrical outlet. If the problem continues, the charger is likely dead and should be replaced.
4. Remove the battery pack once the charging light turns green. This process should take no longer than 90 minutes. The battery pack simply lifts out of the charger.
5. Insert the battery pack into the compartment. Lower the battery latch. Position the battery pack so the arrow on the battery is pointing downward. Close the battery door.
6. Power on the camera. If the camera does not power on, ensure the battery pack is properly positioned in the battery compartment. If it is correctly positioned and the camera still won't turn on, replace the battery.
