It is possible to backup your iPhone 3G through the iTunes program on your computer. The backup will save your iPhone's settings, files and information. You may want to create a backup of your iPhone so that you can restore your iPhone at a later date or so that you can transfer information to a different device. Once you have created a backup for your iPhone, you can use the backup to restore your iPhone through iTunes at any time.
Instructions
1. Attach the iPhone data cable to the bottom of your iPhone 3G and attach the other end of the data cable to an available USB port on your computer.
2. Open the iTunes program on your computer. Wait for the iTunes program to load and recognize your iPhone. On the left side of the iTunes program under the subheading "Devices" right-click on your iPhone.
3. Select the option "Back Up." Wait for iTunes to sync with your iPhone and create the backup file. Do not disconnect or use your iPhone during the sync process. iTunes will prompt you when the sync is complete and it is safe to disconnect your iPhone. iTunes will automatically create a file name for your backup using the current date.
