Troubleshoot The Kodak Easyshare Md853

The Kodak Easyshare MD853 camera is capable of taking 8.2 mega-pixel pictures and comes with 16 megabytes of internal storage. At only 4.1 ounces, the MD853 is a great carry-around camera. However, no camera is worth carrying if it does not function. Several things can prevent a digital camera from working correctly, and a systematic inspection of the Kodak MD853's basic functions will provide a reliable diagnosis along with possible repair solutions.

Instructions

1. Remove the battery from the camera and insert a newly charged battery. The Kodak Easyshare MD853 requires a KLIC-7001 battery, which can be found online or at an electronics supply store. Check for rust or other obstructions in the battery compartment of the camera. Carefully remove any rust by lightly scraping it from the bronze battery connectors with a slim screwdriver or knife. If neither battery will power the camera on, there is probably a short in the internal circuitry of the camera that requires professional repair. If the camera powers on but its images are distorted, continue to Step 2.

2. Dampen a microfiber cloth with a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Gently clean the lens of the camera and then dry the lens with another microfiber cloth. If any cleaning solution gets into the cracks of the camera case, do not turn it on yet. Allow the camera to dry before powering it on, to prevent an electrical shortage. Inspect the lens for scratches. Set the camera's settings to factory defaults by removing and reinserting the battery. If no dust or scratches are present and the camera is taking distorted images, there is probably an internal issue with the lens that requires professional repair.

3. To repair any issues involving file transfer from the camera to a computer, download and install the correct Kodak Easyshare MD853 drivers. The drivers can be found on Kodak's website by selecting the MD853 model number. Click "Save," and choose a file destination folder on your computer, if prompted. Open the drivers file and allow Windows to install it by clicking "Accept" and "Okay" when prompted by the Windows installation wizard. Plug the Easyshare MD853 into the computer's USB port. To verify that the camera is now working, transfer a photo to your computer from the camera's internal memory.
