Reformat A Flip Video Ultra

The Flip Video Ultra is a small, versatile video camera that shoots in either high definition or standard definition, depending on the model. It comes standard with two hours of recording time and either 4GB or 8GB of free storage space. Reformatting your Flip Video Ultra, also known as regaining the full recording time on your camera, is a fairly simple process.

Instructions

1. Turn on your Flip camera and connect it to your computer via the USB connection device.

2. Open a new window in Windows Explorer to reveal your computer's contents. In the left-hand panel, click the "FlipVideo" drop-down box. Press the "DCIM" folder icon and click the "100VIDEO" folder to reveal your Flip Video Ultra's videos.

3. Rename all your videos to "VIDXXXXXAVI," where "XXXXX" is any number from 00001 and 99998 (if you have changed your video's names, e.g., from "VID00001" to another file name). The Flip Video software does not recognize or let you delete any videos that are not formatted this way.

4. Select all the videos in the "100Video" folder. Press "SHIFT + DELETE" on your keyboard to remove them from your camera and computer.

5. Browse any other folders in your main "FlipVideo" drive to make sure there are no other videos to delete.

6. Empty your Recycle Bin. Safely eject your Flip Video Camera by clicking the Removable Storage Device icon in the lower-right corner of the main Windows screen. Remove your camera from the USB port.
