Install Sirius Starmate

Sirius Starmate 4

Installing a Sirius Starmate radio in your car is easier than you may think. These easy-to-follow steps will have you listening to the hundreds of channels of satellite radio in no time.

Instructions

Installation

1. Before installing the Starmate in your car, visit www.sirius.com/install to activate your radio. If you do not have Internet access, you can call (888) 539-SIRIUS (7474). Follow the prompts, and your activation should be complete in minutes. This also would be the time to purchase the Sirius subscription, if you have not yet done so.

2. Decide where to place the unit. You should attach the antenna before securing the radio. You could opt for the front of the car, right next to the closed driver's side door, but not on the door itself. There, the wire will not have to travel as far as if you place the antenna on the roof or the back of the car (although the unit comes with plenty of antenna wire, so either of those locations would work as well). Clean the area of the car on which the antenna will sit, but make sure the area is dry. The antenna will stick tightly, so be careful while placing it.

3. Run the antenna wire under the rubber weather strip along the door and through where the door closes (don't worry, the wire will survive). Run the wire to where you'd like to secure the radio.

4. Secure the radio's base with a suction cup, then attach the radio to the base. Plug the power adapter into the power jack (cigarette lighter, 12-V adapter). Run that wire to the radio. When your lines are mapped out, you can use strength ties to keep hanging wires out of the way of the driver or passengers.

5. Turn on your Sirius Starmate. The radio should then update all Sirius channels. Wait until all updates are complete. Then, locate on your car's AM/FM radio the FM station that provides the best Sirius reception, which means it will be the FM station with the most static. Calibrate the station on the car radio to the Sirius radio. You may have to try a few stations to get the best reception, but after that you're ready to rock.
