Use The Canon Rebel

Canon has been making the Rebel line of SLR cameras since the film days. Their latest Rebel, the T1i, offers refinements to their D-SLR line, including a 15 megapixel CMOS sensor and the ability to shoot high-definition video. The T1i also users a different battery than older Rebels, the LC-E5.

Instructions

Prepare the camera for operation

1. Connect the neck strap to the camera body. Mount the lens on the camera by lining up the red dots on the camera body and lens, inserting the lens and twisting it to secure it. Insert a fully charged LC-E5 battery in the battery compartment at the bottom of the camera. Insert an SD memory card in the memory card slot on the right side of the camera body.

2. Turn on the camera and verify the battery is charged by looking at the battery meter on the LCD screen. The camera has a power saving feature; if the camera isn't used for 30 seconds, it will shut off. Turn it back on by pressing the shutter button. You can change the length of time the camera waits before shutting down by pressing menu, scrolling to the wrench icon, and then selecting "Auto Power Off."

3. Take your first picture by selecting "Auto Focus" on the lens and turning the "Mode" dial on the camera to "Auto." Change the zoom on the lens by rotating the barrel. Depress the shutter halfway to engage the autofocus. When you hear a beep, shoot the picture. To view a picture, press the green arrow on the camera body.

4. Shoot high definition video by turning the mode dial to the "Movie Camera" icon. Auto-focus on what you want to record, then press the "Movie" button the back of the camera. Hold the camera steady, or, better yet, use a tripod. A red dot will appear on the LCD screen while the camera is recording video. Press the "Movie" button again to stop recording.

5. Use live view to see what the picture might look like before shooting. The T1i has a "Live View" mode, so you can use the LCD to shoot instead of the viewfinder. To activate "Live View," press the "Live View" button (Camera icon) on the back of the camera. Press it again to turn "Live View" off.
