The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a compact digital camera that produces 8.1-megapixel images. The camera is part of Sony's W-series models that are fully automatic cameras designed for the amateur user. It was among the first cameras with Sony's "Smile Shutter" function, which programs the camera to automatically take a picture when it detects a smile.
The Body
The W150 is available in black, silver, gold and red. The camera measures 3.7 inches wide, 2.3 inches tall and 0.9 inches deep. It weighs about 5 ounces. On the backside is a 2.7-inch LCD screen for previewing shots and viewing images.
The camera is powered by one Sony NP-BG1 Li-ion rechargeable battery. It comes with 15 MB of internal storage and needs a Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo for additional storage.
The Components
This Sony camera comes with a 5x optical lens, which is comparable to a 30mm to 150mm lens on an SLR camera. It is an autofocus lens that uses nine points in the frame to focus. There is no manual focus option. The camera is equipped with face-detection technology and image stabilization.
The built-in flash reaches from 4 inches to 14 feet away and has fill-flash and red-eye reduction modes.
Shooting Modes
The W150 is a fully automatic camera with no option to work in manual mode. There are 10 program modes that let the photographer tailor the camera settings to a specific environment, such as "Snow," "Beach" and "Twilight," as well as three special effect modes. The camera can shoot up to two frames a second.
The W150 also shoots video at a maximum resolution of 640x480. There is a microphone built into the camera body.
Included Accessories
The camera comes with a battery and a charger, as well as a USB cable and the necessary drivers to connect it to a personal computer for photo downloading. It also comes with the Sony Picture Motion Browser software for downloading. There is a wrist strap, but the model does not come with a neck strap, lanyard or case.
