Connect A Subwoofer Tube Amp

Tube amps are prized for their natural sound quality, and are often employed in high-end audiophile systems. While most home audio subwoofers use their own built-in amplifiers, there are a limited number that are built without amplifiers and employ external amplifiers, like, for instance a tube amplifier. Connecting the subwoofers to the tube amp is a straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Connect one end of subwoofer cable to the LFE output of your receiver or preamp. Sometimes this output is alternatively labeled "SUB OUT." Push the pin of the RCA plug into the jack to make the connection.

2. Connect the other end of this cable to the LFE input of your tube amplifier. Push the pin of the RCA plug into the jack to make the connection.

3. Loosen the speaker terminals on the back of your subwoofer amplifier by twisting them to the left until a hole appears in the terminal posts. There will be two speaker terminals on the back of the amplifier, one colored red and the other colored black.

4. Slide the bare end of the speaker wire marked "+" into the red terminal's hole and tighten the terminal to clamp the wire securely.

5. Slide the bare end of the speaker wire marked "-" into the black terminal's hole and tighten the terminal to clamp the wire securely.

6. Plug the amplifier into a wall outlet or power switch and turn the amplifier on to operate.
