Use A Photocell Trigger On A Canon 430 Ex Flash

A flash often adds a professional look to photos.

The Canon 430EX is an external flash unit. It can be used by attaching it to your camera's hot shoe or separately. This flash has a photocell trigger, which is also called a slave unit, which will fire the flash when it detects a separate flash first. This method of firing units can be extremely useful when trying to avoid tangles of wires with a complicated setup. The only requirement is that the unit must be able to detect a flash in order to fire.

Instructions

1. Turn on the flash unit and push the photocell trigger on the lower portion of the unit to "Slave."

2. Hold the "Mode" button for two seconds until the "M" icon begins to blink. Use the left and right center buttons to adjust the flash output.

3. Place the flash unit as desired for your composition with the photocell trigger facing the camera.

4. Compose your shot as normal. Shoot your photo with the camera's built-in flash (or any other flash) to activate the slave unit.
