You can't always follow your favorite NHL hockey team if you live far away from the action. But one option is to listen to your team, and every other NHL team, on XM Satellite radio. The service now has exclusive satellite rights to offer home team radio broadcasts. All you need to do is get XM service and tune in.
Instructions
1. Subscribe to XM Radio. You buy the receiver and the programming service separately, and the radios are available through XM or at electronics retailers nationwide. You can get units for home, vehicle or both. Once you have your receiver you can sign up for XM radio service for a monthly fee. There is no extra charge to get NHL hockey games on XM Radio.
2. Check out the schedule. XM Radio has designated several channels for NHL hockey broadcasts. Depending on your type of receiver you can see the channel by channel schedule on the screen, or you can program "Information Extras" to show scores, game schedules and channel numbers on-screen as well. You can also find out which NHL hockey game is on which channel on the XM Radio website, and one on-air channel runs game and air times for all sporting events.
3. Ignore blackouts. Unlike some services, XM Radio does not black out any NHL hockey broadcasts, so you can still hear a team even if you live in that club's market area. You don't have to be away from home to hear your home town team's broadcast. XM Radio hockey broadcasts can be heard throughout the U.S. and Canada.
4. Plan for a whole season. The XM Radio exclusive deal with NHL hockey includes rights to every game (about 1100), and all the games of the post season through the Stanley Cup Finals.
5. Talk hockey, too. Even if there is no game currently underway, XM Radio has a channel dedicated to NHL hockey talk on the air 24/7. A number of big names in the game have shows or make appearances during both the season and off season.
