Troubleshoot The Canon Powershot A300

Digital cameras such as the Canon PowerShot A300 have made it possible for even casual photographers to take quality pictures. However, with the many settings and features offered by the PowerShot A300, it can sometimes be confusing to understand why the camera is not operating the way it should. Many of the problems you may experience with the Canon PowerShot A300 can be a result of bad batteries. Verifying the power source is always a good place to start when troubleshooting a digital camera.

Instructions

Turning on the Camera

1. Open the camera's battery compartment and ensure that the batteries are installed correctly.

2. Replace the batteries with fresh ones if you cannot determine whether the batteries still have a charge.

3. Use a soft, clean cloth to clean the battery terminals. This will ensure that the batteries are making good contact with the terminals. Replace the batteries and test the camera by pressing the power button.

Taking Pictures

4. Look at the program dial of the camera to determine which setting the program is in. If the camera is in the Replay mode, it will not take new pictures.

5. Check the status of the flash. If the batteries are becoming worn out, then the flash will take longer to recharge between pictures. Allow the flash to finish recharging before attempting to take another picture. The flash is ready to use when the flash indicator light is orange.

6. Check the status of the memory card in the camera. If it is full or formatted incorrectly for the camera, the camera will not take pictures. Another possibility is that the card is damaged, which can also prevent the camera from taking pictures.

Troubleshooting Batteries

7. Verify that the batteries are either alkaline-based or NiMH AA batteries. Batteries that are not either alkaline or NiMH will not be able to meet the power demands of the camera and will wear out quickly.

8. Keep the batteries warm by placing the camera in an inside pocket when you're in cold temperatures. Batteries exposed to extreme temperatures will not keep their charge.

9. Remove the pictures that are stored on the memory card. If you are reviewing pictures on the camera display and the memory card is full, the camera's processor is working harder to pull up the next picture and process the memory storage. This can wear out batteries quickly. By removing unneeded pictures from the memory card, the memory storage burden is less, and the processor will operate less.
