Samsung Vibrant 3g Specs

A variation of the European Samsung Galaxy S, the Samsung Vibrant 3G

SGH-T959 smartphone was released by cell service provider T-Mobile in the U.S. in 2010. It runs on Google's Android 2.2 operating system and sends and receives data via a 3G or Third Generation network. Several more specific specifications stand out as examples of the Samsung Vibrant 3G's performance capabilities.

Dimensions & Power Supply

The Samsung Vibrant 3G handset is 4.82 inches high, 2.54 inches wide and 0.39 inches thick. With its rechargeable, lithium-ion battery attached, the smartphone weighs 4.16 oz. or 0.26 lb. The Vibrant 3G's battery can provide up to 6.5 hours of talk time and up to 450 hours of standby time on a single charge, according to the manufacturer.

Screen Specs

The touch-sensitive display screen of the Samsung Vibrant 3G spans 4 inches as measured along the screen's diagonal. The screen utilizes capacitive technology for providing touch-sensitivity, which means when a user touches the screen's surface he disrupts a field of static electricity. For generating pixels, or tiny squares of illumination that combine to form images, the Samsung Vibrant 3G's screen utilizes active-matrix organic light-emitting diode, or AMOLED, technology. In contrast to a standard LCD, or liquid crystal display, an AMOLED display generates light using LEDs that contain organic compounds.

Resolution and Colors

Using its AMOLED technology, the Samsung Vibrant 3G can provide a display resolution of 480-by-800 pixels. This gives the smartphone's screen a total, maximum pixel amount of 384,000. In general, the more pixels a screen can display, the higher that screen's picture quality will be. As a "16M"-rated phone, the Samsung Vibrant 3G's screen is capable of producing 16 million colors. As with pixels, more colors means better picture quality.

Memory

The Samsung Vibrant 3G relies on two primary types of memory: random-access memory, or RAM, and microSD flash memory. While RAM is permanently installed in a smartphone and can only store data when a smartphone is on; microSD flash memory is part of a removable chip and can store data permanently. The Samsung Vibrant 3G comes with 512MB of RAM and can accommodate up to 32 GB of microSD memory.

Connectivity

The Samsung Vibrant 3G includes Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth connectivity. This means the smartphone can connect to the Internet when in proximity to a Wi-Fi hotspot and that the smartphone can communicate with Bluetooth headsets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The Samsung Vibrant 3G also includes GPS connectivity, which uses networks of satellites to pinpoint a user's location.

Camera Specs

In addition to providing telephony and Internet functions, the Samsung Vibrant 3G can serve as a digital camera. The smartphone has a built-in, 5-megapixel camera, which means that camera can capture images in 5 million pixels.
