Battery Recycling Programs

Batteries contain potentially hazardous heavy metals like mercury and lead.

In addition to independent programs established by local municipalities, there are nationwide battery recycling programs that allow Americans to be active in preventing toxic heavy metals from unleashing into the waste steam. Whether as an individual, business owner or a municipality, battery recycling programs provide simple ways for clients to play an active role in the stewardship of the environment.

Call2Recycle

Based in Atlanta, Call2Recycle is a free battery-recycling program. With more than 30,000 battery collection sites throughout the United States and Canada, the nonprofit organization has operated since 1994. Today, individuals, businesses, retailers, communities and other kinds of public agencies can recycle rechargeable batteries at any of Call2Recycle's locations in North America. The organization's network consists of retailers, businesses and municipalities that host battery drop boxes at their respective place of operation. Mobile phones also can be recycled through Call2Recycle's program. Like their rechargeable battery recycling service, Call2Recycle's mobile phone collection service is free of charge.
