Delete Iphone Apps

One of the most popular features of the iPhone is its system of apps. iPhone apps are available in just about every category, such as productivity, photography, games, finance, education and fitness. The wide array of available apps for prices as low as 99 cents -- or even for free -- makes it easy to accumulate hordes of apps on your iPhone. You can delete downloaded apps directly on your iPhone or by syncing your iPhone with your computer.

iPhone Apps Overview

The iPhone uses Apple's iOS 4 operating system, which supports miniature mobile applications -- more commonly referred to as "apps." You can download free and paid apps from the iTunes Store on your computer or directly on your iPhone when connected to the Internet. IOS 4 lets you arrange apps on your iPhone's Home screen and organize apps in folders. You can download as many apps as you like, with the only limit being the memory capacity of your iPhone.

Native Apps

The iPhone comes with native apps, also called default apps, which include Mail, Safari, iPod, Weather, YouTube, Clock, Calculator and Voice Memos. These apps come installed on your iPhone when you buy it. You cannot delete native apps from the iPhone. However, you can move them all to your last homepage screen to get them out of the way.

Deleting iPhone Apps on iTunes

To delete iPhone apps from your iPhone through iTunes, connect your iPhone to your computer and click the device icon in the iTunes application window. Click the "Apps" tab, then uncheck the boxes for the apps you want to remove. Press the "Apply" button to sync your iPhone and save your changes. When you delete apps on your iPhone, they remain in your iTunes library. To delete apps permanently from your iTunes library, click the "Apps" link in the left column of the iTunes application window. Select the app you want to remove, then press the "Delete" key. Click the "Move to Trash" button when prompted by iTunes.

Deleting Apps Directly on the iPhone

You can delete apps directly on your iPhone without syncing to your computer. Locate the app you want to delete, then press and hold your finger on the app icon until it begins to wobble. Tap the black "X" that appears, then tap "Delete app" when prompted by iTunes. Apps deleted from your iPhone will remain in your iTunes library, with the exception of apps that you purchased from the App Store on your iPhone that you haven't synced.
