Convert An Acura Mdx Xm Radio To Sirius Radio

You can convert a car radio to satellite.

Converting a terrestrial-based radio to satellite functionality is as simple as buying a satellite radio with a car kit. Converting an already satellite-based radio to another satellite company is more difficult, but it can be done. In most cases, you will need a satellite tuner and a connection port that is specific to your vehicle's make and model to complete the conversion. These can be installed at home if you have experience with car audio connections. However, it is recommended that the system be installed by an audio professional for best results.

Instructions

Convert an Acura MDX XM Radio to Sirius Radio

1. Locate the XM tuner in your car and disconnect it. In most cases the tuner is on the back of the actual radio unit, so the whole unit must be uninstalled. Sometimes the tuner is located on the bottom of the existing radio unit.

2. Connect the factory cable, provided in the HON-SC1 kit, into the tuner. The original cable connector and the cable connector on the HON unit should match.

3. Remove the harness connected to the satellite plug and plug in the harness provided in the HON-SC1 kit. Some radios won't have a harness already connected; if there is no existing harness, simply plug in the harness from the kit.

4. Locate the Sirius ID, usually on a sticker on the Sirius unit. Write it down.

5. Tune the Sirius Tuner to the preview channel to make sure you can hear audio and then call to activate your subscription. If you cannot hear audio, there is a problem with the connectors.
