Usb Camera Recording

Learn to use your USB camera for video recordings.


A USB camera can be useful for recording home videos, taking digital photographs, and web conferencing with friends, family, and colleagues. These cameras are easily installed and are compatible with a wide variety of software applications. Depending on the type of computer you are using, the operating system, the camera software and the goal of your project, there is sure to be a way to quickly and easily set up and use your USB camera for video recording.


Instructions


1. Plug your USB camera into your computer's USB port. Install the drivers included with your camera by inserting the included disc or downloading the driver on the manufacturer's website. Follow all instructions for completing the installation.


2. Open an application that is capable of recording video from a USB camera. Install a program like Apple iMovie, Webcam Recorder or Open Video Capture if you do not already have one on your computer.


3. Select your USB camera as the primary source for video recording. If you are using Apple iMovie, click on the camcorder button and select your USB webcam from the drop-down menu in the bottom left-hand corner. If you are using Webcam Recorder, use the "Preferences" menu to select your USB camera from the "Video Source" menu. In Open Video Capture, open the "Preferences" menu from the "File" menu, click on the "Video" tab and select your USB camera as the input source.


4. Record a video. Click on the button with the red circle to begin recording your video. Click the black square Stop button to end your recording.


5. Save and export your video. Use the file menu to save the video project with the "Save" function, or export the video to your desired format using the "Export" menu. Title your video and select an output location before clicking "OK."
