Connect A Vcr To A Computer With Firewire

Connecting a VCR to a computer via Firewire cabling requires a digital converter box to transform the VCR's analog signal into digital information the computer can process and display. Converter boxes are available at most electronics stores and through online retailers. While the features and capabilities vary--mainly involving the speed of processing the signal--virtually all digital converter boxes connect your equipment in the same manner. Follow a few basic steps to get hooked up.

Instructions

1. Power down the computer and unplug the VCR while connecting equipment.

2. Plug the RCA audio cables into the VCR and the corresponding jacks on the digital converter box, placing the white and red audio cables in the left and right output jacks of the VCR, then plugging the opposing ends of the cables into the RCA audio inputs of the converter box.

3. Plug the yellow RCA video plug into the video output jack of the VCR and the other end into the video input jack of the converter box.

4. Plug one end of the firewire cable into the special firewire jack on the converter box and the other end of the cable into the computer's firewire jack.

5. Power up the equipment and wait for the computer to display the "found new hardware" message, which indicates it recognizes the digital converter box.
