Junk A Big Screen Tv

Streamlined flat screen LCD and plasma televisions have made big screen televisions a thing of the past. It is not advisable to throw televisions away because, according to Energy Star, televisions contain some materials that must be disposed of properly. Owners of big screen televisions have several options for disposing of them, including recycling.

Instructions

1. Take the television to a recycling center. These centers can dispose of the hazardous substances that the television contains and extract valuable materials that can be used to make new televisions. Earth 911 provides a comprehensive database of recycling centers nationwide (see Resources, below).

2. Make inquiries of the retailer if you are purchasing a new TV. Some retailers will pick up old televisions when they deliver a new one.

3. Donate the television. Charity organizations such as the Salvation Army and Goodwill have several drop-off points where people can leave unwanted but working TVs. The Salvation Army also offers pickup services on specific dates each month.

4. Post an ad on a classifieds website, such as Craigslist and Kijiji, offering the TV for free. You may also include a condition that the interested party picks up the television. You may receive better results if you post pictures.

5. Give the TV away in a Freecycle group. Members of Freecycle groups exchange unwanted items free. Visit Freecycle to find a group near you.
