Use A Uniden Bc248clt Scanner

The Uniden BC248CLT is a combination police scanner, AM-FM radio and alarm clock, and is fully programmable with priority channels and one-touch weather. This desktop scanner has the ability to scan 12 channels per second. When an active channel is found, the scanner stops so you can hear the conversation. Before you start using the scanning function, you need to know about programming channels to listen to local public safety agencies and other transmissions.

Instructions

1. Set the clock on the scanner. When you turn on the scanner, the default display "12:00 P" will show. Use the number keypad to enter the correct time. Press the AM/FM key to set the time to AM or PM. Press "E" on the number keypad to set (see page 11 in the scanner's instruction manual).

2. Program the channels into the scanner. Weather channels are already programmed for you. Press "Manual," to enter the channel that you want to program using the keypad. For instance, to program channel 14, press "1" and "4." Enter the frequency using the number keypad with the decimal -- for example, 155.865 MHz. Press "E" to set. Continue programming other frequencies on different channels. Hint: Use the "banks" to organize the channels by groups. For example, use bank 1 for fire department frequencies (channel 1 to10), bank 2 for police (channel 11 to 20), use banks 3 to 5 (channels 21 to 50) for miscellaneous entries such as city workers, buses and county highway workers if you have the frequencies (pages 14 and 15).

3. Press "Scan" after all of the frequencies are entered. Set the squelch by turning the squelch dial all the way clockwise and slowly turning counterclockwise until you hear a hiss. Slowly turn clockwise again until the hiss stops (page 12).

4. Activate or deactivate banks as needed. When the scanner is scanning channels, press the number on the keypad that represents the bank you want to deactivate. For instance, if you want to deactivate bank 1, channels 1 to 10, press "1" while the scanner is scanning, and this bank will be "skipped." To reactivate the bank, press "1" again while the scanner is scanning. (page 17)

5. Listen to one channel only by pressing "Manual," then the channel number, then "Manual" one more time to have access to the channel (page 19).

6. Use the "Lockout" button if you don't want to listen to a channel. Press "Lockout" on the front of the Uniden scanner. That channel is skipped in scanning. To activate the channel again, press "Manual" and enter the channel number on the keypad, press "Lockout" again. If you forgot the channel number, use the arrow up-and-down buttons to find the channel. On the upper right-hand portion of the screen, you will see "L/O". That indicator will disappear once the channel is reactivated.(page 21).

7. Give a channel a two-second delay in scanning by pressing "Delay" on the scanner when the scanner stops on the channel. This allows you to stay on the channel for two seconds after transmission stops to see if any replies are made before scanning resumes, so you don't miss anything important (page 23).

8. Set up one priority channel per bank by pressing "Manual" and using the keypad to enter the channel number you want to make priority. Press "Manual" again. Press "Priority" and hold it until you see "PRI" above the frequency and "P" is displayed before the frequency number in the digital display. Repeat this step to enter one number for the other four banks so that you will have five channels scanning in priority mode. When you want to listen to the priority channels only, press the "Priority" button. To resume scanning all channels, press "Priority" again (page 20).
