Instructions For A Nikon 440 Rangefinder

The Nikon 440 is a model of rangefinder that features a rugged and water-resistant design, making it a suitable device for golfing, birdwatching and other outdoor activities. The device will help you determine how far away something is in relation to your position without making you walk the distance or use another method of measurement. The Nikon rangefinder uses a laser sight to determine distance and an eyesight with an internal display to quickly display the data for you to make an informed decision.

Instructions

1. Open the battery compartment by turning the battery lock with a coin or other small object. When the cover is open, insert a 3V lithium battery into the compartment and close the cover. The LCD in the viewfinder window will now display a battery icon showing how much battery life remains and indicating that the rangefinder is ready for use.

2. Turn the diopter adjustment dial counterclockwise until it won't turn further. Turn on the power to the rangefinder by pressing the "Power" button on the back of the device. Turn the diopter dial clockwise while looking through the viewfinder until the image on the LCD is clear. Note that this dial may need to be adjusted each time the rangefinder is used.

3. Move the rangefinder until the targeting reticule on the LCD screen matches up to the object for which you want to determine the distance. Hold down the "Power" button while keeping the reticule lined up. You will see a "Now Measuring" message in the LCD as the device sends laser signals to the object.

4. Continue holding down the "Power" button until a distance measurement appears. The time required depends on the distance of the object. Press and hold the "Mode" button on the top of the device to switch the measurement from meters to yards. Release the "Power" button after receiving the measurement; the device will turn off after not being used for eight seconds.

5. Release the "Power" button and let the device turn off if you receive a "Failed to measure/Cannot measure" message. Line up the reticule in the LCD screen with the item you want to measure and repeat the process from Steps 3 and 4 to try again.
