Repair Your Smartmedia Card

SmartMedia cards are used in some digital cameras to store pictures and videos. A camera only holds a certain amount of pictures, and having a SmartMedia card (also called an SD card) extends this limit. If the SmartMedia card becomes corrupted, re-format the card to repair it; do this using the SmartMedia card slot on your computer, or on a SmartMedia card reader.

Instructions

1. Insert the SmartMedia card into your computer's SmartMedia slot. If your computer does not have a SmartMedia slot and you are using a SmartMedia reader, insert the card into the slot on the reader. Connect the reader to a USB port on your computer via the USB cable.

2. Click the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner of the screen and then click "Control Panel." Double-click "System and Security," click "Administrative Tools" and then click "Computer Management." Under the left pane, click "Disk Management" in the "Storage" section.

3. Right-click the SmartMedia card on the right side of the window and select "Format." Click "Format" again on the next screen to begin the process of formatting the SmartMedia card. When the process is finished, click "OK" to close the window.
