Removing the factory CD player from your Kia Rio is necessary if you want to install a new unit. While is may seem necessary to take your Rio to a car stereo shop to have the stereo replaced, removing the old stereo is a straightforward process and can be done in no time with just a pair of pliers and a screwdriver.
Instructions
1. Open the hood on your Rio. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Use pliers to loosen the retaining nut on the cable and slide the cable off of the battery terminal.
2. Carefully pry up the center trim panel on your Rio's dashboard. This is the panel that surrounds the stereo, including the AC vents. Use your fingers to work the panel loose. The panel is secured on the sides with plastic retaining clips. Start on one side and work your way around the trim, using gentle pressure to pop the clips loose.
3. Remove the four Phillips screws holding the stereo in place. Slide the stereo forward.
4. Unplug the antenna cable from the back of the stereo. Press the release tab on the plastic wiring harness and unplug the harness from the socket. Slide the radio all the way out of the dashboard.
