Buy A Good Marine Radio

If you plan to be out on a boat in the near future, make sure that the boat has a good marine radio. It wouldn't be safe to be in your home without a phone to call 9-1-1, and it's not safe to be out at sea without a properly working communication device. To buy a good marine radio, you need to know what functions it needs to have, plus what extra functions you want it to have.

Instructions

1. Visit local electronic stores, such as Best Buy or Radio Shack, to view their selection of marine radios. Their selection will vary depending on their location. An electronic store near the coast will usually have a much wider selection than a store that is far from any body of water.

2. Search online electronic stores for extra selection. While you may not be able to personally touch a marine radio online, you will find a great deal more of them for sale online.

3. Set a budget for how much you are willing to spend on a marine radio. Some basic radios can be purchased for less than $100, while some with more features can cost quite a bit more.

4. Make sure the marine radio has the basic features to protect you out on the water. The amount of channels is important, with Channel 16 being the first place where the Coast Guard announces crucial information, such as storm warnings.

5. Make sure the marine radio runs on a power source that is going to last for the amount of time you plan to be out on the water.

6. Find a marine radio with the extra features you desire. Certain features, such as how it plays music, are often the reason some marine radios are more expensive.

7. Know the return policy before you buy it. Since you can't test your marine radio out on the water before you buy it, you may need to return it if you don't find it to be a safe device.
