Comparison Of Ultra Thin Digital Cameras

Today's digital camera are much thinner and sleeker than those of yesteryear.

The latest digital cameras produce higher quality photos and come equipped with more functions available, while being at the same time more practical as far as size and design. Today's digital cameras are much smaller and significantly thinner than their predecessors, making them easy to carry in thin pockets and purses. Thin digital cameras are ideal for those who like to take pictures in situations where carrying heavy photography equipment would be unreasonable.

Canon PowerShot SD450

Measuring a mere 3.4 x 2.1 x 0.85 inches and weighing only 5.5 ounces, the Canon PowerShot SD450 is a thin camera that doesn't sacrifice quality for durability. In fact, it measures equally on both scales. It comes with the professional quality and efficiency one would expect from Canon, while harboring travel-friendly qualities that make it easily transferable from in-pocket to in-use. The Canon PowerShot SD450 has a 3X optical zoom and 5 mega pixels. It's lens has a self-preservation quality about it, extending only about half of an inch when in use, and is automatically protected with a cover when turned off.

The Canon PowerShot SD450 doesn't come with much memory--it has no internal memory, and comes with only a 16 MB SD card. This isn't much for a 5 megapixel camera, and users can expect to have to purchase extra memory.

Casio Exilim EX-S500

This is one of the smallest and lightest of all thin digital cameras, weighing in at only 4.6 ounces. The Casio Exilim EX-S500 is also one of the thinnest cameras, with its thickest part being the .63-inch extent of the LCD screen. The rest of the camera is under half an inch wide.

This camera is rated highly in terms of ease of use. Functions are marked clearly on the camera, and the menu options are easy to understand and quick to access. The camera-to-video function is also simple and versatile. You can turn video into still shots, as well as zoom in and out while recording.

The photo quality of the Casio Exilim EX-S500 isn't the best, and the user will need a rather large SD memory card to utilize the full potential of its video function.

Fujifilm FinePix Z1

The Fujifilm FinePix Z1 is the Fuji response to the ultra-slim camera market, measuring 3.5 x 2.2 x 0.7 inches and weighing 5.1 ounces. This camera has one of the highest ratings in photo quality, along with several compact features that make it easy to carry in one's pocket. The lens is entirely internal and is protected by a front cover slider, which also turns the camera on and off. The LCD screen is also protected by a thick acrylic layer.

What the Fujifilm FinePix Z1 has in design and photo quality, it lacks in additional features. The video functions are minimal and the options for camera modes are few and unimpressive. The controls and menus are not as easy to use or understand as those on other thin digital cameras.

Nikon CoolPix S710

The Nikon CoolPix S710 is a slim, durable camera that features optimum tools for clean photography. With a 14.5 megapixel image sensor, a 3.6X zoom, optical image stabilization, and a 3-inch high resolution LCD screen, it is almost difficult to take a bad picture with this camera. The large LCD screen makes finding views, as well as sharing views, easy.

On the downside, this camera has no video recording capabilities. It also shoots pictures rather slow, which means having to take several takes for the perfect shot. The menu is also somewhat tricky to navigate and understand.

Samsung DualView TL225 Review

The Samsung DualView TL225 Review is very different from other thin cameras in its bracket because of its 1.5-inch LCD viewer screen on the front. This screen allows the subjects to see themselves as the picture is being taken. It also gives the photographer a chance to be in the shot and still ensure a great picture. The main LCD screen is also impressive at 3.5 inches, and so is the camera's optical and digital stabilization system. The lens is also very powerful, with 4.6X optical zoom lens plus 5X digital zoom.

This camera has a relatively high memory capability, at 55MB. It has a mini-HDMI connector, allowing for viewing HD video on an HDTV or HD monitor. You will need an adapter to use this feature, which isn't included with the camera.

The major downside to this camera is its extremely low battery life.
