Nokia cell phone and battery
It is a known fact that cell phone batteries can be undependable at times, and that as time goes by, even more so. Over time, with use, all batteries lose their charging potential. There are some ways, however, to get the most out of your battery and extend its life. Even if it means using an external battery.
Use Less Power & Charge Less Often
The best way to prolong the life of your cell phone's battery is to use as little power as you can. It is understandable to have wi-fi running while you are surfing the Web on your smartphone, but it just uses up battery power if it runs while you are not using the device or during a call. Using the vibrate feature is all right if you are in a meeting, in a class, or in the middle of a speech, but it, too, just uses up more power to spin the vibrating motor. When possible, it is best to just use a ringtone for incoming calls and messages, which uses less power. Other settings, such as Bluetooth availability and brightness, can be adjusted to get more out of any cell phone battery.
It is also important that you do not charge the battery too often. Most new phones do not require that their battery be charged every day, although many consumers have made it a habit to do this, which prematurely ages the battery. It is best to allow the phone battery to fully run out, and then be fully recharged all at once. This helps to prolong the life of the battery. Most fully charged cell phone batteries can last two to three days before requiring another charge.
Watch Conditions
Just like electronics and other batteries, the conditions under which cell phone batteries are stored will affect their life. Extreme levels of heat can harm battery life just as much as cold temperatures (below 40 degrees F) can. This is not just true for the battery, but for cell phones, as well.
For this reason it is important to store your cell phone and battery in a room-temperature environment whenever possible. Do not leave your cell phone in the car all day when it is 99 degrees outside, and don't stand in a walk-in freezer for extended lengths of time with your phone on you. By keeping your phone and its battery from becoming too hot or too cold, you eliminate the possibility of prematurely aging the battery from extreme temperature damage, maximizing its life.
External Devices
If your cell phone battery already seems to have had it, then there are several types of external batteries available to extend a cell phone's power beyond that of its actual battery.
Some external battery accessories, such as the "Energi To Go" line from Energizer, rely on AA (or other disposable sizes) batteries and various universal adapters to provide additional power to any cell phone, while others, such as the inCase Power Slider, use a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and fit only specific phones (the iPhone in this case).
Whichever route you choose to take with an external battery, it is important to remember that not all third-party accessories are created equally. If you have found an external battery that suits your needs and fits your phone, you may want to check for any reviews of it from other users. Check to see if the manufacturer has a Web page with more information.
