Troubleshoot Coolpix S6

Troubleshoot your camera to continue taking great pictures.

The COOLPIX S6 is a point-and-shoot digital camera produced by Nikon. This unit offers 6.0 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens. The camera has a large, 3.0-inch LCD screen that makes setting up the image a breeze. The COOLPIX S6 comes with rechargeable batteries and a docking station called the COOL-STATION. Problems occur with any camera model. Often the issues that arise are minimal and easy to solve. When using a digital camera, fixing a problem may require some upfront troubleshooting.

Instructions

Power Issues

1. Locate the power switch at the top of the camera. With the camera display facing you, the power switch is to the left of the shutter button, toward the middle of the camera.

2. Look at the power indicator light next to the power button. A solid color indicates the camera is functioning. A blinking signal means the monitor is off to save power. A flicker in the indicator light means the battery power is exhausted. Flickers will not be constant like a blinking light. No light indicates that the camera is not powering up because of a problem.

3. Use the COOL-STATION to charge the batteries. If the camera has no power, plug it in to the COOL-STATION to recharge the battery. The COOL-STATION is a docking port that charges the batteries or connects the camera to a computer. Set the camera onto the COOL-STATION with the monitor facing the COOL-STATION logo. Plug the COOL-STATION into an electrical outlet.

4. Look at the monitor on the back side of the camera. No battery icon means the batteries are fully charged. A battery icon indicates low battery power. A warning signal that states "Warning! Battery Exhausted" indicates dead batteries.

5. Change the batteries if they are low or completely exhausted. Turn the power off by pressing the power switch on top of the camera. Turn the camera over, so the bottom is face up. Open the battery chamber/memory slot cover. Locate the orange battery latch inside the chamber. Push it to eject the batteries. Insert new batteries following the diagram on the cover of the battery chamber. With the batteries inserted, the orange latch clicks back into place. Turn the camera on to see if it is functioning.

Blank Monitor

6. Check the battery status. Change low batteries.

7. Press any button on the camera. The monitor may be in standby mode to save power. Pressing any button will return the monitor to an active state.

8. Remove the USB cable. When the USB cable is connected, the monitor will not light.

Camera Will Not Take Pictures

9. Check the battery status. Insert new batteries if needed.

10. Turn the camera so the monitor faces you.

11. Press the top button. This is the shooting/playback button. It has an icon of a camera and right-facing arrow. If the camera is in playback mode, the shooting function will not work. Pressing the button will put the camera back into shooting mode.

12. Press the power button to turn the power off on the camera.

13. Turn the camera over and open the battery/memory slot cover.

14. Press the button next to the memory card slot and eject the card. If no card pops up, insert a memory card. If the card comes out, press gently to reinsert it. Turn the camera back on and attempt to take the picture again.
