An HD plasma TV's picture quality is so good, it can outshine your computer monitor. If it has an Ethernet port, it can be used to access the Internet, but not as fully as with your desktop computer. The TV does have informative "widgets" that use the Internet if connected. If you want to access a full Internet web browser on your plasma TV set, you'll still need your actual computer to use with the TV replacing the computer monitor.
Instructions
Widget Internet Access
1. Check your plasma TV set for an Ethernet port in the back. It looks like a phone jack but is slightly wider.
2. Connect your modem to the TV with an Ethernet cable with the modem unplugged. Unplug the modem if it was connected to another computer so the modem will reset.
3. Plug in the modem after connecting it to the TV. Wait for all the modem's lights to activate, signaling full connectivity.
4. Press the Internet or Info button on the TV remote control. This will bring up numerous widgets that present news, business, sports, weather and other reports.
Full Internet Access
5. Keep your computer connected to the modem and your Internet activated. Open your computer's web browser to verify you are connected.
6. Make sure your plasma TV has a VGA port in the back. This port looks like a trapezoid with several pinholes within it and two more holes outside the main port.
7. Disconnect your desktop computer from its monitor. Move the computer into the TV room or the TV into the computer room. If you have a wireless keyboard and mouse connected to the computer, simply move the keyboard and mouse into the TV room.
8. Connect the TV to the computer's video output using a VGA cable. Plug the main connector into the main port and twist the two outer connectors into place to secure the cable. If the computer and TV aren't in the same room, you'll need an extra long cable. Otherwise, use the same cable that connected the original computer monitor.
9. Use the Input button on the TV or remote after turning it and the computer on. Select the "VGA/Computer" option on the menu and your computer screen will appear on the TV. Use your mouse and keyboard to access your web browser.
