A security camera is basically a web camera (or "webcam" as it is more commonly called) that can be connected to a PC from a greater distance through the use of a wireless transmitter and receiver. To connect a security camera to a PC, purchase a wireless transmitter kit, which is typically available from electronic stores and hobby shops and has its own wireless network --- no settings must be made in order to use it. The connection procedure is straightforward and will not harm an existing wireless network in any way.
Instructions
1. Place the wireless video transmitter next to the security camera --- if the camera is mounted to a wall, mount the transmitter to the wall next to the camera using wood screws and a Phillips screwdriver.
2. Plug the transmitter's power cord into a wall outlet for power --- an extension cord can be used to connect the wall outlet to the power cord if the distance is too great for the power cord alone.
3. Angle the external antenna on the transmitter in the general direction of the PC --- this step is not done if there is no external antenna on the transmitter. Press the "On" button on the transmitter if there is one.
4. Insert one end of a Composite video cable into the "Video in" port on the transmitter. Insert the other end of the Composite cable into the "Video out" port on the back or bottom of the security camera.
5. Place the wireless video receiver next to the PC. Plug the receiver's power cord into an AC outlet for power.
6. Angle the external antenna on the receiver in the general direction of the PC --- this step is not done if there is no external antenna on the transmitter. Press the "On" button on the receiver if there is one.
7. Plug one end of a USB cable into the USB output on the receiver --- if there is already a USB cable permanently connected to the receiver, you will not have to do this step or need a USB cable. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on the PC. A PC video recording/capture program can now be used to receive the video signal from the security camera for recording.
