Fix A Digital Scale

There are many uses for digital scales. You may have one in the bathroom to keep track of your weight, especially if you're trying to shed a few pounds. Or maybe you keep a small scale in the kitchen to weigh produce or other food items you plan to cook--digital scales provide a more accurate method of measurement than measuring cups. Digital scales are handy devices, but they're not much use if they're not working properly. Fortunately it's fairly calibrate a digital scale. You should fix your scale a few times a year or more often, depending on how frequently you use it.

Instructions

1. Wipe the scale with a damp rag. Dirt and debris may get stuck to the scale, causing to display an inaccurate reading.

2. Press down the calibration button, which should be labeled "CAL," "Mode" or "Function." Hold the button down until until the digital display changes and a message--one or more zeroes or "CAL"--appears on the screen. The scale is ready for calibration.

3. Place a weight on the scale for about five seconds, so the scale measures it. Use a test weight, if you have one that came with the scale, or an exercise weight--you can't just use any household item because it's important to know the exact weight. For bathroom scales, which measure greater weights than smaller scales, use at least a 10-lb. weight, so that it will register.

4. Press and hold the calibration button to adjust the weight of the scale until it matches that of the weight on it. This ensures an accurate reading for anything you weigh with the scale. Push the calibration button once to lock in the weight, then turn the scale off. Turn it back on after 30 seconds--it's now ready to use.
