Microphone stands are a great way to use microphones for amplification and keep the performer or speaker's hands free. The way you mount your microphone on the stand reflects the quality of your audio output. There are three types of mic stands: the straight vertical, boom and small tabletop.
Instructions
1. Place the mic stand near the person or instrument that the microphone needs to amplify.
2. Turn the clamp counter clockwise to adjust the stand's height. Raise the stand higher and use a boom microphone to obtain sound from multiple people. Position the stand equal to or slightly lower than the height of the speaker, performer or instrument when using a one to one ratio. Tighten the clamp once the desired height is set.
3. Twist the microphone clip and attach the microphone.
4. Plug a XLR cable or power cord into the butt end of the microphone and then into the speaker or mixer.
5. Wrap the cable once around the vertical bar of the stand and once around the boom.
6. Switch on your speaker and microphone and check audio levels. You may decide to readjust the height or reposition the stand.
