Load 35mm Film

Although most cameras have automatic loading, it's only automatic after you properly get the film inside the camera and shut the film-loading door. If you load 35mm film correctly, the camera will then advance the film on its own. Otherwise, you will get an error of one type or another, depending on your camera. If you have your manual, use it until you get used to loading film. Read on to learn load 35mm film.

Instructions

1. Open the latch to the film-loading door. You will find it on the back or side of the camera. Some cameras may have the word "open" or an arrow.

2. Lift the door all the way open once you've unlatched it. Now you're inside so you can load the 35mm film.

3. Place the film into the proper empty cavity. Notice an empty cavity with a protrusion on one side. Also notice that your film cassette has one end that fits nicely right on top of it. This is where you load the 35mm film by first positioning it onto the protrusion, and then gently pressing it the rest of the way in.

4. Turn the film cassette so that the film leader is lying flat against the empty rectangular area in between the two cavities.

5. Pull the film leader out a bit if necessary to bring the edge of the film up to the mark located on the other side of the camera. Be sure to press down onto the film cassette if you need to pull any film out to reach the mark.

6. Line the holes in your film up with the sprockets in the camera.

7. Close the camera and the film should advance on its own unless you have an older model camera (see Resources). If it doesn't, you've done something wrong, so check your work. You may need to load the 35mm film again.
