Create A Pvc Camcorder Rig

Hand-held camcorder rigs stabilize cameras during motion shooting. Novice videographers may feel the need for a camcorder rig but lack the budget to buy one. With quick trip to a building supply store and basic construction skills, you can make your own.

Instructions

1. Begin the frame. Cement two angle connectors to each end of a 6-inch pipe section. Extend the frame by cementing two more 6-inch sections to the open ends of the connectors. You should now have three sides. Add two more angle connectors and two more 6-inch sections (securing with cement) so that you have a five sides in a "U" shape.

2. Build the mount attachment. Cement two more angle connectors hooking back to the center. Extend them with 2 1/2-inch sections.

3. Attach a T connector to each of the short sections. Extend each connector with two more short sections. You should now have seven sides. Complete the octagon with the two additional angle connectors and a 6-inch section.

4. Build the mount base. Extend both T connectors with 1 1/2-inch sections so that they're pointing inward. Add the last two angle connectors to each 1 1/2-inch segment and extend those with 3-inch segments. Connect both sides with the four-way (cross-shaped) connector to complete the bridge connecting the two sides of the frame.

5. Cap both ends of the four-way connector with the shortest distance to the frame. You may need to add a short section of pipe for the cap to fit. Seal the assembly with cement.

6. Thread the carriage bolt through the end cap holes. Use the wing nuts, nuts and washer to secure bolt. Connect the threaded hole at the bottom of your camera to the bolt and tighten with the wing nut.
