Compatible Filters For Tokina 1116 Lens

Filters alter the quality of light that enters the camera.

The Tokina 11-16mm lens is a third-party manufactured lens made for either Nikon or Canon camera bodies. Many photo filters can be attached to it to alter the quality of light that enters the camera. This particular lens has a filter mount for 77mm filters. Be sure to check the size of your filter before purchasing it.

UV Filter

A UV filter removes ultraviolet light from the photo. This reduces some of haze from landscape photos, but the main feature of this filter is for lens protection. Typically, these filters cost around $10, and will receive the main blow from any damage that may happen to the actual lens glass. Losing a cheap piece of equipment is better than having to send a lens to a repair shop or breaking it completely.

Polarizing Filter

A polarizing filter is the most popular among professional photographers. It will deepen the colors in a photo and increase the contrast. Additionally, it will remove the glare from some transparent surfaces, such as water or glass. If you are using a DSLR, you should use a "circular" polarizing filter, since the linear type will not work on digital cameras.

ND Filter

An ND filter, which stands for a "neutral density" filter, reduces the amount of all light that enters the camera. This is most often used in video work to darken an exposure without changing any of the camera's settings, and mostly only needed on bright days.

Color Filters

Color tinted filters are also available. These filters are primarily used for artistic effect to bring out one specific color, such as red, blue, green or purple. However, color filters can also be used to enhance the colors in an image. For example, to shoot a deep blue sky, you can add a graduated blue filter to the lens.
