Use A Tivo Box As A Cable Dvr

TiVo is a multimedia set-top box that allows you to schedule and record showings of your favorite television programs. By using a CableCard in conjunction with the TiVo you can eliminate the need for a digital cable box. In addition, the device features built-in access to streaming video services, such as Netflix and Amazon Video On Demand. The TiVo box also allows you to access your favorite music through the Pandora and Rhaposdy applications. You must first configure your TiVo box before using the device as a cable DVR.

Instructions

Set up TiVo Box

1. Insert the coaxial cable from your wall into the "Cable" jack on the rear of the TiVo box. Screw in the coaxial cable as tightly as possible to ensure the best picture quality possible.

2. Connect your TiVo box to your home network so that it can connect to the TiVo service and provide you with important data, such as software and guide updates. Insert one end of an Ethernet cable into an available "LAN" port on your router. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the rear of your TiVo box.

3. Choose the appropriate Audio/Video connection type (i.e., HDMI, Composite or Component cable), depending on your home theater setup, and plug the wires into the rear of both your TV and your TiVo box. Plug one end of the TiVo's power adapter into an available electrical outlet on your wall. Insert the other end of the power cord into the rear of your TiVo. Wait as your TiVo device powers on automatically for the first time.

Configure TiVo Settings

4. Follow the on-screen prompts and complete the TiVo Guided Setup. Press "OK" if prompted to install any software updates to improve the performance of your TiVo DVR.

5. Press the "TiVo" button at the top of your TiVo remote to launch the "TiVo Central" menu. Scroll down and select the "Messages and Settings" tab. Click on "Settings" and open the "Remote, CableCard & Devices" menu. Open "Remote Control Setup" to configure your TiVo remote. Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your TiVo remote with your television so that you can control both your TiVo and television's functions with the use of just one remote. Press the "Volume Up" button on your TiVo remote and wait for the volume to change to ensure that the remote functions properly.

6. Insert your CableCard into the "CableCard" slot on the rear of the TiVo box and wait for it to recognize the CableCard. A serial number as well as a phone number for your cable provider will appear on screen. Call the phone number and provide a representative from your cable company with your CableCard's serial number so that he can remotely pair the CableCard and the TiVo together. Press the "TiVo" button on your remote to exit this screen and begin using your TiVo.

7. Input the number of the channel that you wish to view and press the "Enter" key. Press the red "Record" button to record your desired television program to the TiVo's internal memory for future viewing.
