Increase An Fm Transmitter Signal On A Sirius Radio

Transmitting crisp, clear digital audio right to your car.

The easy method to install a Sirius satellite radio system in an automobile is to set it up with an FM transmitter. When using this method, the Sirius satellite radio signal transmits to the outside Sirius antenna on your vehicle which re-broadcasts the signal onto an FM frequency that you choose. This can result in problems with static, interference and loss of audio quality. The downside to having an FM transmitter is that interference is inevitable. However, you can increase the strength of the FM transmitter to help regain and maintain better audio quality.

Instructions

1. Check to ensure that your Sirius satellite radio antenna is positioned in an area on your vehicle that is free from any obstructions. The antenna should have at least 3 inches of clear space around it and a clear view of the sky in all directions. This will provide the strongest possible satellite signal to your vehicle.

2. Place your FM Extender Antenna (FEA) as close to your vehicle's FM antenna as possible. The FEA is always located inside of the vehicle usually on the windshield or back window depending on the location of the radio antenna. Having them close together will yield a stronger signal between the two antennas.

3. Tune to an FM frequency that is not in use by any local broadcast station and has the lowest level of interference. A clear frequency will amplify the signal going to your FM transmitter. If you have trouble locating a clear channel in your area, Sirius' web site provides a database of suggested frequencies that is searchable by zip code. If this frequency is no longer ideal while you are traveling or you are in a new area, search for a new FM frequency by turning off your Sirius radio and scanning through the local channels on your vehicle's radio to locate the best option. Once you have located the best FM frequency, save it as a preset on your vehicle's radio. You also will need to save the frequency as your Sirius preset. To save as your Sirius preset, turn on your Sirius radio and find its FM frequency adjustments, which is under "FM Transmitter Options" in the settings or menu. Set the FM frequency to match the chosen frequency that is on your vehicle's radio.
