Olympus E3 Camera Tutorial

Olympus E-3 Camera Tutorial

The Olympus E-3 is the top-of-the-line digital single lens reflex camera in the Olympus product line. The camera is built around a 10.1 megapixel digital sensor that incorporates "Sensor shift" technology to improve sharpness in pictures. The camera has a top shutter speed of 1/8000th of second and can take an unlimited number of JPEG pictures, up to the memory card capacity, at a rate of five frames per second. This makes the E-3 a contender for sports photography or similar genres that require the ability to take numerous pictures rapidly.

Instructions

1. Install both a compact flash memory card and SD memory card into the E-3. The camera features a dual memory card drive system, which is very beneficial for photographers who want to record images in JPEG and RAW format.

2. Press the "FN" button located on the top right of the camera to access the customizable function you can program this button to operate. The Olympus E-3 has the same standard exposure and shooting modes to select from as many other DSLR's. This button allows the photographer to switch between autofocus and manual focus with one simple press. It can also be programmed to switch shooting modes and switch between JPEG and RAW files. You can also take a "test picture" with this button. The camera will take the picture but will not store it to the memory card.

3. Press the button located on the top right of the back of the camera that has an icon that looks like three small boxes. By pressing this button and rotating the main dial, you can set autofocus system. You can select a single focusing point or set the camera to automatic selection, which enables the camera to select the focus point for each picture. Or, you can select the "Dynamic single area" autofocus mode, which enables the camera to focus using the adjacent autofocus area.

4. Press the "AEL/AFL" button, which will lock a focusing point for the picture you want to take, and will lock the exposure for the scene. Once this is locked, you can compose and take the picture you want to shoot.

5. Hold the camera to your eye. Press the shutter release button halfway down to activate the camera's focusing and metering programs. Press the shutter release the entire way down to take the picture.
