Charging a battery too fast could cause an explosion.


Charging a car battery is typically not a difficult task to do. However, certain things, such as charging them too fast, should be avoided because of the negative effects that could occur from such an action.


Battery Life


One of the major things that could be affected when you charge a battery too fast is its life expectancy. When the battery is charged too rapidly, it creates an uneven charge and greatly reduces the battery's life.


Warning


When the battery is charged too quickly, hydrogen gas builds up to unsafe levels. When this happens, anyone nearby could be exposed to the high concentration of gases as well as be in danger of the explosion that could occur.


Prevention


In avoid charging your battery too fast, you should never let the charge current go over 10 percent of the battery's amperage. For instance, a 10 amp-hour battery shouldn't get a charge current over 1,000 milliamps.
